“From Counterfeit to Divine Deliverance:

How God Closed What I Shouldn’t Have Opened”

🔑 Delivered from the Counterfeit: When God Rescues You from What You Thought You Wanted

There are seasons in life when the desire for companionship, comfort, or control can blind us to the quiet whisper of God’s warning. I know that season well—because I lived it. What started as innocent curiosity on a dating app in November 2021 turned into a deep entanglement with a man I now refer to as counterfeit #3. I was fresh off a finalized divorce from counterfeit #2, and although I told myself I was moving forward, I was still frozen in a place of spiritual compromise.

From the moment I saw his profile, I idolized him. Before we ever met, I had made him a fantasy. I talked about him constantly. I checked my phone obsessively. I planned my life around someone I barely knew, and I opened doors I wasn’t spiritually equipped to guard. The enemy knew I was vulnerable, and he moved swiftly. I overlooked red flags—concerning comments, spiritual mismatch, and even our children’s lack of connection—just to avoid loneliness.

By our first date, I was already slipping. I drank several shots of sake—something completely out of character for me—which became the open door to deeper compromise. I quickly found myself in sin, and everything accelerated unnaturally from there. What I thought was love was actually a setup. The enemy was giving his final push to derail my destiny.

Through holidays, birthdays, and relationship milestones, I poured out—money, time, emotion, energy. I celebrated him, bought gifts, rearranged my life, even planned to live together. But once again, I was playing wife without a covenant. I repeated the same mistake I made with counterfeit #2—and again, my finances dried up. I didn’t see the connection then, but now I realize: rebellion always has a cost.

The summer of 2022 confirmed everything God had been trying to show me. A trip to Texas to meet my family turned sour. Then, another road trip made it clear—I was being used and emotionally manipulated. He withheld communication, dodged transparency, and became increasingly distant. Still, I pressed on, hoping things would get better.

Then came the car accident. My son and I were in the vehicle—and counterfeit #3 showed no concern. That should’ve been enough. But idolatry is blinding. Just as I prepared to walk away, he reeled me back in with gifts, money, and the couch of my dreams. He paid bills, supported my business, and fixed my car. He became the provider I wanted—without ever being the partner God sent.

Worse, I followed him into darkness. I started dabbling in new age practices—sage, incense, reiki, readings. I justified it as “healing” but it was demonic deception. He even sent money for a reading. When I tried, the payment was blocked. God was protecting me—speaking, shielding, even when I couldn’t hear Him.

In December 2022, I got COVID and leaned on counterfeit #3 more. But by January, the bomb dropped: another woman called me claiming she had been with him since November 2022. She sent screenshots, call logs, photos, and videos. It was traumatic—eerily similar to what happened with counterfeit #2.

In February 2023, he broke up with me—following the breakup he showed me my dream wedding ring in a small box in the palm of his hands via facetime, insisting he had bought it before the breakup and wanted us to get back together. And get this—we were planning to conceive a child in March 2023. But God. In His mercy, He allowed everything to fall apart before I stepped further into the enemy’s snare.

I didn’t sever communication until December 2023—after rededicating my life to Jesus Christ in November. Once again, God rescued me from my own disobedience. He gave me another chance. I had been bamboozled by fornication, fear, and emotional idolatry. But God’s hand was never too short to save. He exposed the counterfeit. He protected my womb. He preserved my destiny.

Looking back, I see how this season affected everything—my motherhood, my ministry, my finances, and my spiritual posture. But I also see God’s faithfulness. I see His mercy. I see how even when I turned away, He was setting up my deliverance.

And here’s the truth: If He did it for me, He will do it for you.

🔑 Activation: Confronting the Counterfeit

Reflection Questions:

  1. Is there a person, opportunity, or relationship in your life that you’ve elevated above God?

  2. Have you ignored red flags because of loneliness, fear, or desperation?

  3. Are you currently compromising in areas that God previously delivered you from?

Action Steps:

  • Write a breakup letter to the counterfeit—whether it’s a person, pattern, or sin. Renounce it. Break soul ties. Declare your freedom.

  • Repent and re-align. Read Psalm 51 out loud and ask God to create a clean heart in you.

  • Sow a seed of obedience. Fast, give, serve, or start the thing God told you to do. Break the cycle by doing the opposite of what the enemy wanted you to do.

🔑Prayer: Restoration After the Counterfeit

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being the God who rescues—even from the messes we make ourselves. Thank You for never giving up on me. I confess the idols I’ve placed above You—relationships, emotions, fears, and desires that led me away from Your voice.

Lord, I repent for every door I opened knowingly or unknowingly. I ask for Your forgiveness, Your cleansing, and Your fire to consume every soul tie, every counterfeit attachment, every lie of the enemy. Break every chain that has held me captive.

Restore what I lost in the wilderness of disobedience. Reignite the purpose You placed in me. Redirect my steps. Surround me with truth-tellers, godly counsel, and divine alignment. Teach me to trust You again—not because of what I see, but because of who You are.

Abba Father, I choose You again. I surrender my plans, my timelines, and my desires. Write my love story according to Your will. And help me never again to trade covenant for convenience.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen. Amen. Amen.
